사)세계해동검도연합회 미국행사에 이어 핀란드 아일랜드 스웨덴 행사 설명

2008년 2월 21일부터 동월 27일까지

사)세계해동검도연합회 미국해동검도협회(협회장:김문갑)에서 주관한 발대식 및 기타 세미나 행사에서  미국 일부지역 제외한 각 지역 대표를 선임하는 등 미국에서 해동검도가 크게 발전할 수 있는 기틀을 다지는 아주 중요한 해동검도 행사를 본 협회 김정성총재의 참석으로 치루어졌으며,

동년 3월 7일부터 12일까지 핀란드 행사

3월 12일부터 17일까지 아일랜드 행사를

각 국 주관으로 이루어지며 본 협회 총재 김정성도 참석하게된다.

이 시기에 스웨덴 행사도 같이 이어진다. 스웨덴 행사는 별도로 게시 예정이다.

Dear Instructor,

 

It is with great pleasure that I invite you and your students to join with us for an open seminar with Grand Master Jeong Seong Kim, 9^th Dan Haedong Kumdo.  

 

Haedong Kumdo traces its origins back to the earliest Dynasties of Korea, where the Hwarang (the Knights of Korea) used the skills it taught to defend their homeland against Japanese Pirates and Chinese Invaders.  

 

Now being re-popularised through the efforts of Grand Master Kim and the United World Haedong Kumdo Federation, this ancient Martial Art has made its way across the globe, and can be found in the USA, Canada, South America, Africa, Asia, Australia and across Mainland Europe.

 

The 13^th and 15^th of March 2008 will see Martial Artists from Mayo gather at these open seminars in Ballina and Manulla Community Centre to learn from this exceptional master, who has dedicated his life to studying the way of the sword.  During these seminars participants will learn the basic and advanced stances and sword techniques of Haedong Kumdo before moving into partner training, and to cutting tests with the wooden sword.  The seminar will finish with an introduction to the basics of using two swords, one of the methods particular to Haedong Kumdo.  

 

For this seminar, those attending can wear their own Martial Arts uniform, or loose clothing (tracksuit, etc.), and will need to bring with them training shoes and two wooden swords.  For those who do not own wooden swords, it is fine to bring along two sticks, each 1 meter in length.  Participants will also need to bring an old newspaper and a church style candle with them for cutting and extinguishing practice. 

                                                                                                                                                                  

These seminars will cost just �20 for members of the Mayo Martial Arts Association and �30 for non-members.  All places must be pre-booked and pre-paid on or before the 1^st of March, 2008.   Bookings can be made by contacting Martin at 087 – 6407263, or Harry at 087 – 2753750 and I would recommend booking early, as this seminar will fill quite quickly.

Haedong Kumdo Grandmaster Returns To Mayo

 

Grandmaster Jeong Seong Kim, 9^th Dan Haedong Kumdo will make a return visit to Mayo this March to present two open seminars in the ancient Korean Sword System of Haedong Kumdo.

 

Korea has a very long history of swordsmanship and Koreans were highly skilled with their swords, no less so than their Japanese or Chinese counterparts, especially since Korea, as a natural land bridge in northeast Asia, frequently served as a major battleground for various powers vying for dominance in the area.   While the usage of the sword declined during the Joseon dynasty (mostly due to that dynasty's neo-Confucianist tendencies, which emphasized academic pursuits and tended to disdain martial pursuits), during the Three Kingdoms period of Korea, the sword was a very important weapon.

 

Incidently, during the Joseon period, swords also had ranks depending on who wielded them and what their purpose was.  The highest ranking of these swords was known as the Byeol-ungeom, literally meaning "cloud-splitting sword." only two such swords existed and were wielded by the King's two bodyguards, who always stood on either side of him and held the nobility title of Un'geom.

 

Korean Swordsmanship schools would use the term "bup" meaning the way; hence, the term "Kumbup" meaning Sword way or 'how to use the sword' in literal translation.

 

Examples of Korean swords themselves are very scarce, since most surviving examples were confiscated and destroyed during the Japanese colonial occupation (1890 to 1945).  During this time, a systematic attempt was made to collect and destroy all Korean swords, coats of armour, and all Korean martial arts equipment. The entire history of Korean swords and armour was almost lost forever, along with many of Korea's cultures and traditions.

 

Haedong Kumdo survived as a style and Grandmaster Kim, is a 9^th Black Belt of Haedong Kumdo, and Chief Instructor of the United World Haedong Kumdo Federation.  The goal of this organisation is to spread Haedong Kumdo around the world, through the development of highly skilled instructors and students.  

 

This is the second time Grandmaster Kim has included Mayo on his international seminar tour, he was here in October last year for a two day seminar.   Mayo Martial Arts Association Chairman, Martin O’Malley told us that ‘having guest instructors with the knowledge and experience of Grandmaster Kim is vital to the continued growth and development of Martial Arts in Mayo, and in particular to the growth and development of Haedong Kumdo’.

 

These seminars are open to anyone interested in learning the use of the sword and are taking place in Ballina on the 13^th of March and Manulla on the 15^th of March.   Places are limited so pre-booking by contacting 087 – 6407263 or 087 – 2753750 is essential

이 날 행사에는 미국 전역에서 각 총관장 및 사범들이 오기로 되어 있었으나, 일부 지역에서 폭설로 인해 참가하지 못한 사람들도 많이 있었다.

총재의 축사로 시작되면서 각 지역별 총관장 임명장과 감사장 등의 수여식이 있었으며, 이 때 시범은 해동검무, 검법, 베기, 격검 등 많은 종류의 시범들을 보여 주었다.

발대식 종료 후, 곧 바로 세미나에 들어갔으며,
이의 내용에는 검법/짚단베기/오이베기/종이베기 등등이 있었다.

Many people from all over the country have started to show up so that they can participate in the Opening Ceremony & Haedong Kumdo Seminars organized & managed by USA Haedong kumdo Federation,where Grand Master Kim,Munkap is a President.

But unfortunately, some masters with their students couldn't take part in this event although they have prepared for Demo & Participation at this event due to too bad weather with too much snow.....

This remarkable Opening Ceremony with more than 200 participants including Masters and Instructors with a large Spectators have been made a statement as the Chong Jae Kim, Jeong-Seong of United World Haedong Kumdo Federation give a Welcoming Address in public.

Following this Congratulations, the presentation of the Letter of Appointment and several kinds of Haedong Kumdo Demonstrations according to the Provinces such as Sword Dance to the music and Straw Cutting, Group Kumbups and Kyukkum and so forth..

After Opening Ceremony, Haedong Kumdo Seminars have been started by several masters and Instructors. Many participants really had a good time during about 3 hours all the time.

This Event finally came to an end with making a promise to meet together soon again.
We expect for sure that USA Haedong Kumdo Federation had a very strong basement to be a flourish and successful one all over the country through this first event
